Be sure to take advantage of all the great events during Culture Days, especially our Reading Flash Mob on September 25! The Forest of Reading Evergreen™ Award lets adults choose their favourite book from a list of ten nominees. We will be hosting some Evergreen™ nominee author readings and holding an Evergreen™ Voting Party on October 21. Look for a list of the nominated books on page 12 of this newsletter. This fall we will be launching our new Makerspace on the lower level of the McLaughlin Branch. A Makerspace is an area where people gather to make and create, incorporating new technologies with traditional creative resources. They are intended to foster play and creativity, facilitate informal learning, and develop a culture of creating as opposed to consuming. Our Makerspace will offer a 3D printer, 3D scanner, LEGO® Mindstorms robotics, MaKey MaKey™ kits, a green screen, and an iMac as well as traditional arts and crafts supplies to let your imagination run wild. See you at the Library! Frances Frances Newman CEO, Oshawa Public Libraries
